IT strives to meet the challenges of the digital transformation of science, society and the economy.

Contexte et atouts du poste
This work will BE conducted within the H2020 DESDEMONA project (http://www.desdemonaproject.eu). Among other tasks, this project undertakes the design and implementation of data fusion techniques encompassing video images, thermography and vibration measurements.

Mission confiée
Within the DESDEMONA project, Inria and Ifsttar are developing video-based vibration analysis, a recently emerging research topic for the monitoring of some mechanical structures. See, e.g., (Feng and Feng, 2018) for a review of this topic. Selected pixels within a video image serve as remote sensors substituting conventional in situ sensors, which usually provide vibration information for structural health monitoring (SHM), e.g., (Thons et al., 2018; Dolher et al., 2016). Different computer vision techniques have been identified from literature to extract subpixel displacements of selected targets within image sequences, e.g., (Chen J. et al., 2016). In order to further develop this new technique and to demonstrate its applicability to SHM, Inria and Ifsttar are opening a 12 month post-doctoral position. The post-doctorant will work on the design of vibration monitoring tools based on video image processing. IT is expected that this work will start between March 1 and May 1, 2020.

Principales activités
The first part of the work consists in extracting motion signals from video images, which have the particularity of low sampling rate, compared to conventional mechanical sensor data. This part will benefit from an ongoing PhD study which is carried out at Inria. The second part of the work consists in designing and developing vibration analysis algorithms suitable for the processing of motion signals extracted from video images. This second part will partly rely on the experience of our team in mechanical sensor-based vibration analysis for SHM (Bhuyan et al., 2018). The post-doctorant will have to design experiments and instrumentation set-up, along with data acquisition systems and vibration data analysis. The first experimentation in this work will BE to realize a demonstrator with steel cantilever beams (a vertical beam at Ifsttar, and a horizontal beam at Inria). A full scale experiment will BE planned on a metallic bridge in the city of Nantes. The latter experiment will include an alternative vibration measurement technique, namely, GB-SAR as shown in (Zhang B. et al., 2018), for cross-validation purpose. The post-doctorant will BE mostly working at Ifsttar-Nantes, with regular meetings at Inria-Rennes.

Keywords : structure health monitoring (SHM), vibration analysis, system identification, image processing, data acquisition.
